Starting School Information

We understand that starting school is a huge step in your child's life and we do try to make it as easy as possible for both parents and children.

Induction to Oak Class (Reception and Year 1)

As part of our induction process, we would like to offer your child the opportunity to visit Oak class for up to three visits. Your child(ren) can bring a soft toy with them for moral support. Please also provide your child with a named water bottle.

Starting school – Staggered Start Option

When the children start school in September, we recommend that they all attend school for the mornings only for the first two weeks. Then we recommend that the children attend school and stay for lunch in the third week but leave at 1:00pm, then attend full-time from the fourth week. Some may continue with half days until half term if needed.

For more information about our nurturing Oak Class environment please see our Oak Class page.

We look forward to welcoming your child(ren) and starting the exciting process of giving them the tools they need to become happy, confident and independent learners as they move through their school career.

Infant free school meals and Milk

You may be aware that the government introduced universal free school meals (UFSM) for infants from September 2014. This means that all infant pupils (YR-Y2) will be offered a free daily meal in school. As part of your induction process we shall confirm whether you wish your child to receive this benefit.

Free milk is also available up until your child’s fifth birthday. We will register your child but if you wish to continue and pay for the milk please contact the school office and we will advise you regarding ordering online.

School Transfers

If your child is transferring to us from another school, we offer a taster day to help them get acquainted with their teachers, peers, classroom and the rest of the school. Please contact the school office to arrange a date.
