Our School Grounds
The school building
The main school building dates back to the 19th Century, complete with bell-tower. The old headteacher’s accommodation has been incorporated into the school which has been transformed into a phonics library, music room, and our ELSA room.
Our main classrooms are the Oak, Sycamore and Elm classrooms, please see Class Pages for more information on these spacious learning environments. In addition to these we have smaller rooms for individual or group intervention sessions, when children need a bit more support on a topic.
We have three library areas, a newly established IT suite, and a reading area that is used when our volunteer readers and teaching assistants listen to our children reading every day. We have created a nurture space where children are able to go with an adult should they require any additional support.
Our grounds
We are very fortunate to have use of a large sports field a short walk from the school where we take advantage of the best weather days not only for outdoor sports and clubs, but also lessons, when it is not necessary to remain inside.
Our playgrounds on-site are well-equipped for our different age groups.
The Oak Class outdoor area benefits from a large, sheltered roof area which creates a generous extension to the main classroom. This is utilised daily as a brilliant learning through play area complete with mud kitchen, water play buckets and pipes, bikes and scooters that can be ridden around the road/track and a bug hotel.
The main playground has various activity options: football, netball, a wooden assault course “Play Trail” complete with climbing wall and rolling log, exercise equipment, an excavation area, and quiet play areas demarcated by different flooring types.
Year 6 play leaders oversee the younger years in using the playground equipment effectively and safely such as – hula hoops and skipping ropes, and other activities developed by our sports coaches.
In Summer 2023 we opened our Coronation Garden: a very productive hub, with raised beds growing bee-friendly flowers and vegetables, which are used to supplement our school lunches, and an area for outdoor learning.
