Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop CofE Primary School

Sport

At Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop, we offer a wide sports and physical education provision. All students experience lessons in the school grounds or hall, making use of the gymnastic equipment and outdoor space.

We invest in external specialist sports education, using sports coaches, working in tandem with teaching staff, to deliver the sport curriculum. All our lessons follow the National Curriculum, allowing your children to develop new skills whilst being engaged in a holistic learning environment.

The coaches run mentoring programmes to support pupils in both individual and small group settings, leading tailored sessions that meet the needs of the relevant students. Sessions cover a variety of different exercises, including social and behaviour development, fine and gross motor skill and, where required, SEN support.

Our sports coaches not only benefit our children but also our teaching staff as they provide CPD training so that our staff can continue to develop their skills in delivering the sport curriculum.

Throughout their school careers at Chilmark, our sports coaches build up our pupil’s skills from a foundation level before introducing them to a wide variety of sports.

2023 Cup Winners – Green House

2023 Good Sportsmanship Trophy – Red House

Parents and family members are all invited to attend our Sports Day.

A typical Sports Day

Pupils can come to school in PE kit. Please ensure they have a hat, sun cream and a water bottle.

We always keep an eye on the weather and will adapt the day as necessary to keep everyone safe.

After school drop off Friends of Chilmark School (volunteers welcome) set up the gazebos for Friends BBQ and refreshments

10:30 am - House Events start: the children will be in their house groups, mixed ages, working together to demonstrate the skills they have learned in PE. These will include throwing, jumping, speed and agility, accuracy, building and teamwork skills.

12noon - families can collect pupils for a picnic lunch. We understand that some families have work commitments and may not be able to attend so children will be looked after by the class teachers during the lunch break. If you make arrangements for your child to have lunch with another family please let us know in advance.

1pm - all of the children will participate in races on the track, racing against other houses but in their class groups. Pupils will need to stay with their classes and parents will need to stay on the other side of the track.

2:15pm - we will have parents’ races then end with the presentation of the winning cups. The Good Sportsmanship Cup will be awarded for the house that is the most encouraging and supportive of others.

At the end of Sports Day please collect your child from the teachers who will have grouped the classes by the side of the track.
