Curriculum Intent
Chilmark School delivers a strong academic curriculum to all pupils, but also places a high importance to developing empathy and creativity.
We believe that these are the essential skills for the future and that creativity and empathy will make our students into respectful, kind, happy and productive individuals.
At Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop, we have mapped all areas of the National Curriculum and added some additional expectations of our own.
As a result of this all pupils make excellent personal progress from their individual starting points. We focus on providing breadth, by mapping subject expectations and then planning topic based themes to ensure that coverage is engaging and interesting. All pupils are challenged, the depth of the curriculum is closely monitored and personalised to ensure the growth of skills, an excitement for learning and enquiry.
If you want to find out more speak to the class teachers, or the subject leaders. You can see the maps and policies for progression, support and challenge in our curriculum maps tab. We do not teach combined subjects in a ‘topic format’, we deliver each subject with its own subject fidelity and intent.
