I live in Chilmark and my son is in Sycamore Class (year 2) and I have been really impressed with the education and support he receives at our lovely village school. I spent 10 years working at the Citizens Advice Bureau, and now work for Dorothy House Hospice Care, near Bath. I am a volunteer with the Wiltshire Council Syrian Vulnerable Person’s Relocation Scheme and I am Treasurer of the Friends. I dance, with more enthusiasm than skill, with White Horse Morris.

Chris Farrand

Chair of Governors

July 2016 - July 2020

Committee: Curriculum & Staffing

Subject Lead: Sport & PE

Responsibilities: Whistleblowing, Data & Pupil Premium, Staff Appeal Panel
I have one child currently in year 3, and my younger daughter will be starting in reception this year. I started work as a chef and then have worked in estate agency for the last 15 years. Prior to this I was a chef. In my spare time I enjoy football and squash. I spent my childhood living in Chilmark, and have a great affinity with the village. I decided to become a governor, as I am passionate that the school flourishes, and that every pupil that attends the school realises their full potential.

Caroline Marking

Local Authority Governor

Committee: Curriculum & Staffing

Subject Lead: Humanities

Responsibilities: SEND, Staff Appeal Panel, Pupil Discipline Committee
I live in Fonthill Gifford and have three grown up daughters. My youngest is at Bristol University. I have a background in Finance and Executive Search. I have previous Governor experience from Leaden Hall School in Salisbury, and am actively involved in the Chalke Valley History Festival. I am also a Trustee of Wilton Riding for the Disabled. I am delighted with my recent appointment as a Governor at this special school where I am responsible for Special Educational Needs and Humanities.

Patrick Middleton

Vice Chair of Governors

November 2015 – November 2019

Committee: Curriculum & Staffing

Subject Lead: Numeracy

Responsibilities: Head Teacher Performance Panel, Staffing Panel
After a full career in the Royal Navy, mostly as an engineer and submariner, I was the secretary in a grant making trust for some years. With my wife Janey, I have been involved in many village activities over the past 22 years; also I was a previous Governor of the school.

Glen Miller
Co-opted GovernorSeptember 2016 - September 2020

Committee: Curriculum & Staffing
Subject Lead: ICT
Responsibilities: PR & Marketing Group, Complaints, Pupil Discipline Committee

I have worked as a graphic designer for more than 40 years, including 17 years at ITN (ITV News). A former Hampshire Parish Councilor, I am now a member of Chilmark PCC, and my wife Sarah and I edit and produce The Village Voice newsletter. I believe that art is important in the development of the young mind, and I hope I will be able to help promote and market the school.

Rev Graham Southgate

Ex Officio Foundation Governor

Since November 2011

Committee: Curriculum & Staffing

Subject Lead: RE & PSHE

Responsibilities: Staffing Panel
I am the Foundation Governor ex officio through being the Team Rector for the Nadder Valley Benefice, which includes the villages of both Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop. I was a research Microbial Biochemist before I became a priest, thus my outlook spans both science and matters of faith. Along with my colleague Mark Hayter, I help to lead Collective Worship on Tuesday mornings and the occasional service in the village church.

Ian Sutcliffe

Foundation Governor

March 2016 – March 2020

Committee: Chair of Curriculum & Staffing

Subject Lead: Art, Music, Dance & Design Technology

Responsibilities: Teacher Pay Panel, Complaints
I have been the Director of Music in several major independent schools throughout my career. My wife and I now run The Riverbarn in Fonthill Bishop with our two chef sons Jonny and Tom. I enjoy working with colleagues and supporting the fundamental work of this lovely school. I am enjoying running weekly Musical Assemblies and leading the school’s new Chamber Choir.
